Website Research- Trevor Paglen
Before creating my website, I researched different websites to understand what I liked. After searching around, I preferred websites to be simplistic. I don’t want to get distracted by the layout and to be able to appreciate the work I’m viewing. The website I reacted best to was Trevor Paglen.
The simplicity of the website allows your focus to be on the photographs. There is no possible way of getting lost on the website. Everything you want and need to know is right there. The photographs cover most of the site and have information surrounding them.
The only thing you have to do is scroll down. You can change projects at the bottom and locate buttons for contact and more information about the artist. I think this website is well-suited for this artist. It’s a great mix of journalism and art.
One aspect I did find that didn’t work, is on the Making Faces sections. The photographs scroll across. It is hard to move to the next photo. You have to drag it. The website doesn’t move as smoothly as the rest of the website.
Points I would include in my website are:
• How easy it is to Navigate the website. No distractions.
• I would like to take the concept of having a small number of buttons and links on the website and carefully consider where I would put them. For instance, Paglen’s buttons can be located at the bottom of the page. I don’t think this would work for me. However, it could be an idea to have the home and back buttons at the bottom as secondary.
• The internal and external links work perfectly. There is no glitch or issue. Once on an external link, it is easy to find your way back to the original page and website.
I think for my website, I would like it to be more photo-based. However, I enjoyed my time on the website. It just flowed so perfectly which allows you to be so immersed in the work.
